Wedding cakes have definitely become a lot more interesting since our Mother’s wedding!
Now it’s all about taking the latest dessert craze and stacking it in tiers for an easy grab n’ go solution, no cutting required. When cake pops were popular years back, you started seeing wedding cake pop stands like the photo below. The spherical design provided enough visual interest that other adornments weren’t necessary and just like regular icing, can be coloured any hue to match décor. One of my favourites still running is the oreo cake, it’s a budget-friendly alternative and perfect for weddings where many kids are attending. Since they also come in vanilla, you can intermix the standard chocolate and lighter versions for a more classic black & white wedding palette.
On May 13th, Rebecca Wise of Event Wise (@msrebeccawise) featured a similar kid-friendly wedding cake idea from L-eat Catering our Milk & Cookie Tier Display on CTV’s The Social with guest host Debbie Travis. Some other popular wedding catering trends in Toronto are donuts tiered cakes with gold leaf icing, cheese wheel cakes, and popsicle pop displays.
